Humans are made for connection the way lungs are made for air, and nowhere is that more alive than in New Orleans, where women and communities gather over shared meals, passed-down objects, and stories that spill as easily as the drinks. Around crowded tables and front porches, strangers become known and something restless inside us settles into rhythm. Here, connection isn’t a luxury: it’s a way of life, carried in music, memory, and the simple act of showing up for one another.

zadie chauvin drifts through the frenchmen art market like a fever dream in cowboy boots and mardi gras beads clinking year-round. she’s part tomboy poet, part velvet-draped oracle: styling indie film sets by day and selling voodoo trinkets. her apartment smells like palo santo and fried oysters, scattered with disco balls and thrifted lamps that hum with stories. on warm nights, she hosts tarot-fueled “bitters & boards” porch parties under string lights and soul records. raised on creole parades, zadie doesn’t follow trends… she conjures them, with a wink and a matchbook.

mardi gras 2025 drew nearly 1 million attendees, with parade-day crowds reaching 327,000 and hotel occupancy hitting 95%— surpassing 2024 levels. the festival generated up to $1 billion, making up around 4% of new orleans' annual income.
